Every student must go through these papers before appearing in the board exams, as board exams are different than school/college internal exams. Now the question is, what is SLO-based exams?
SLO Based Paper:
SLO-Based Exam is where the paper is designed by concepts of what students had learned in the classroom, whether from the course book, any other book, from the internet, or any other source of knowledge. The main purpose of this practice is to discourage the ‘Ratta’ system where students learn some lessons by heart and write as it is on paper.
Federal Board Islamabad has introduced an SLO-based examination system from 2022 onward. SLO stands for ‘Student Learning Outcomes‘ a criteria set by the National Curriculum Council of Pakistan in 2006 to be implemented across all the educational boards of Pakistan.
Unfortunately, not a single education board in Pakistan has taken a step to implement the SLOs in their examination system and keeps practicing the old examination system.
Federal board took the initiative and implemented the system from Annual Examination 2022 of 10th class, initially, the response was not welcoming. The teachers and students started complaining about SLO-based papers and their pattern but FBISE did not step back and keep on implementing.
